Overview
If you have a particular indication in mind, try exploring medical conditions first. Atlas offers a list of 1200+ conditions that are searchable and filterable by therapeutic area. Each medical condition follows the ICD-10 naming convention.
Viewing a medical condition gives you access to view general information regarding that condition's technologies and measures, with the ability to view detailed breakdowns on the technologies and measures, as well as the condition's specific evidence.
The default view is inclusive of all evidence in which that medical condition was reported. That means that our Applied Sciences Team also labels concomitant medical conditions or comorbidities listed in the evidence even though this condition might not be the primary aim of the research.
Using the primary research focus toggle will allow you to filter for evidence in which the medical condition of interest was part of a study’s inclusion criteria and the primary aim of the research focus. The Most Used Technologies and Top Measures cards on the Medical Condition page will update as well if you use the toggle.
To better understand our medical conditions tagging processes, let’s take the example below:
Our team associated the medical condition primary research focus as Parkinson’s Disease. Nonetheless, the authors are reporting that the study sample also suffers from depression, anxiety disorder, and hypertension. Those medical conditions will therefore also be associated with this evidence in Atlas as they are considered to be concomitant with the Parkinson’s Disease medical condition. As a result, this piece of evidence will be displayed by default in the 4 medical conditions pages (Parkinson’s Disease, depression, anxiety disorder, and hypertension), but using the primary focus research toggle on the medical condition page of interest will only display this evidence under Parkinson’s Disease.
NOTE: Medical conditions are individually licensed to organizations and only accessible by AtlasPro or AtlasEDU users. For access to more conditions, please contact your HumanFirst representative, or click on the "Learn More" button next to the condition.
Medical Conditions Details Breakdown
On a medical condition's detail page, you will find three cards: a general overview card, a list of Most Used Technologies, and finally, a list of Top Measures pertaining to the condition.
Medical Condition Overview Card
The first card on a condition's detail page is the overview card. It contains useful information, such as:
Technologies: The total number of connected sensors and software in Atlas used to capture this digital measure.
Measures: An aggregate of the measure categories most often captured by connected sensors in this medical condition.
and Evidence: An aggregate of all pieces of evidence in Atlas using connected sensors in this measure category. Types of evidence include peer-reviewed papers, validation studies, clinical trials, and conference abstracts, among others.
Most Used Technologies
These are the top technologies used in the applicable medical condition sorted by amount of evidence (papers, journals, etc.). The contents of this card are sorted by the amount of applicable evidence, with the technology with the most evidence at the top of the list. Each technology is accompanied by its vendor, under the technology's name, and its total evidence count for the condition you're viewing.
Clicking on a technology will take you to its detail page where you can learn more about it. Clicking on its evidence count in this card will apply a filter for the relevant technology (e.g. SenseWear Armband) to the search below and change the view of the results to Evidence, where the evidence is listed (more info in view options).
Top Measures
This card includes the measure categories most often captured in evidence by connected sensors for the applicable medical condition. Clicking on a measure's evidence count in this card will apply a filter for the relevant measure (e.g. Steps Per Day) to the search below and change the view of the results to Evidence, where the evidence is listed (more info in view options).
Medical Conditions View Options
Below the aforementioned cards is a full list of technologies and medical conditions associated with the measure that can be searched and refined using filters. The default view will show you the list of technologies. You must change your view option to show medical conditions.
For more information on how to effectively narrow down your results, please see our How to Use Filters and Search and Browse Atlas articles.
Changing the View
To change which information you're viewing, simply use the toggle on the right side of the screen above the Filter By box. This is done automatically when you click on the evidence count of a Top Measure or Most Used Technology.
Technologies View
This is the default list view. You will find all technologies related to the medical condition in this list, with the ability to filter them on the right side of the screen. Please note that by default discontinued technologies are shown. To filter them out, please use the "Availability" filter. Technologies are currently filterable by:
Measure
Medical Condition
Technology Type
Regulatory Decision
Availability
Product Evidence Count
Vendor Evidence Count
Form Factor
Wear Location
Sensor Modality
Waterproof
API/SDK
There are multiple columns of information available in the table.
Technology: Contains a double-arrow icon to add the technology to the compare list and displays the technology's picture, name, and vendor.
Measure: Any measure applicable to the technology is listed here in a hierarchical manner. You can expand the list by clicking the plus sign next to the measure. Additional measures are found by clicking on the "+#" button where applicable (see animation below).
Evidence Count: The total amount of vendor and product evidence per technology.
Regulatory Decision: If the technology is FDA Registered or CE Marked.
Medical Condition: Any medical condition applicable to the technology is listed here. For more, click on the "+#" button.
Supporting Evidence: The total amount of supporting evidence for the technology.
