Evaluating Technologies
Altas is built upon a 5 part framework that was published in Nature Digital Medicine and adopted into The Playbook: Digital Clinical Measures from the Digital Medicine Society.
Evidence: Does the tool measure what it claims to measure? Is the measurement appropriate for the target population?
Utility and Usability / Technical Specifications: How is the tool worn? Battery life? Availability of technical support?
Data Rights and Privacy: Who has access to the data and when? Is the privacy policy publicly accessible?
Security: Does the manufacturer build safety by design? Is there a Disclosure Policy? Software Bill of Materials?
Economic Feasibility: What’s the net benefit versus price? Is cost a one-time or subscription model?
Comparing Technologies
Atlas offers a technology comparison tool to help aid you in finding the technology you need.
When making a decision about a technology to implement for a study, side-by-side comparisons come in handy, especially when presenting during team meetings.
Compare allows you to easily examine multiple technologies' evidence counts, technical specifications, price and availability, and data rights and security details.
The Compare feature is found on the upper right corner of all Atlas pages and is collapsed by default. To expand it, simply click the button.
Compare is represented by a double-arrow icon. Whenever you see this icon, you can click it to add the associated technology to the list. Clicking the icon again or clicking the "x" on the Compare panel will remove the technology from the list.
Below are images of the Compare icon and what Compare looks like when expanded with items added.
Technologies can be added to the Compare list from many places, including:
Technology search results
Technology detail pages
Measure detail pages
Vendor detail pages
Once you've added all of the technologies you'd like to compare to the list, click the blue Compare button at the bottom of the list. This will redirect you to a page showing a detailed comparison breakdown of the items. Each criteria is collapsible and expandable by clicking on them.
