Filter Terminology

Accessing Filters

Filters appear alongside most data tables in Atlas (e.g., in the Atlas Library pages, on Technology Detail pages, and in Projects). To access filters, click on the “Filters” button above the table.

Adding Filters

  • Click on the “Filters” button

  • Select the filter category either from the list or by using the search

  • Choose the value(s) and change the operator, if needed

  • Optionally add more filters, as well as remove a filter or clear all to start over

Note: The dropdown displays filter values sorted by their count (the number of results that will be generated). Click “show more” to see more, or search for a specific filter value if known.

Searching for a Filter

When the specific filter value is known it can be searched for, and any corresponding filter categories will appear, saving time from having to review the entire category list.

Using Multiple Filters

Multiple filters can be used together to narrow the research focus. When multiple filters are combined, AND logic will be applied and results shown in the table will match all chosen filter criteria.

For example, if you filter by Medical Condition is any Parkinson’s Disease and Availability is any Available to purchase, the table will display technologies that have been used to measure Parkinson’s Disease AND are available to purchase.

Given the AND operator between filter categories, subsequent filters will be scoped to what is applicable to the previous filters as well.

Utilizing the example above, adding a subsequent filter will only show the values and the corresponding value count for the selected filter category where it is also true that the technology has been studied in Parkinson's AND is available to purchase.

Changing the Filter Operator

Once a filter is added, it can be refined with an operator selection. The data type for each filter category will influence the operator options. Most filter categories display a drop down for the operator, which allows for it to be changed to any of the following:

is any of

OR logic

is all of

AND logic

is none of

NOT logic

Removing Filters

To remove a filter, simply press the "x" icon next to the selection or click on “clear all” to remove all the applied filters.

Saving Filters

To save a search and filter query, click on the save search button to the right of the search bar. The query, including filters, can then be saved to a project so it can be easily returned to later as new evidence and technologies are added to Atlas.
